That has always intrigued me. I’m not much of a baseball fan. Not at all, really. The last World Series I watched had Catfish Hunter and Tom Sever as starting pitchers and Rollie Fingers and Tug McGraw in relief. But how can the announcers, sitting up in the booth, tell what kind of pitch it was. A couple of years ago I went with my cousin to his grandson’s JuCo baseball game. We were sitting right behind and a little above home plate. I could see every pitch from the pitcher’s hand to the catcher’s mitt. The only way I could tell the difference in any pitch was because I could see the readout on the radar gun. Yet, the PA announcer identified each pitch and he didn’t have any better view than I did. How can they tell?
