middleish iowa
I use a crop scouting service. They think proactive application is worth the money. I do two passes.
However, I combine my corn later because I do not have grain dryers and shoot for a moisture level\cool temperatures for an air dry bin.
On the rare occasions there isn't extra yield, the fungicide and insecticides treated corn stands great and retains ears to allow later harvest dates.
I don't buy untreated seed. I always use herbicides. I always apply fertilizer every year regardless of scouting reports.
My neighbors son works with the scouting company and does add some insightful information.
