Amherst WI | Here’s my issue with it and I will start out by saying people do need to be connected with their food.
Most operations have way too much overhead costs to make this work. Meaning if you need to gross $1M a year to cover those other expenses sitting at a farmers market selling $15 roasts and $20 ribeyes makes a for along road to get there. You fart around all Saturday morning to come home with $1500 gross.
It takes scale to make this work and once you have scale you then catch the attention of bureaucrats and Karens who will eventually attempt to crush your business.
I see little popup farmstands selling vegetables, eggs and baked goods at the end of the road mostly run by folks who don’t understand their costs. $5/dz sweet corn, $3/dz eggs all going backwards. | |
