15 years ago while working in a nicer lower income neighborhood in Birmingham, AL-
We were told by the homeowner to be gone by 5pm. The local hood rats would be crawling out of bed to get the night activities started.
They would steal everything in a work truck that wasn’t bolted down. Never saw a cop patrolling while the job was active. Building inspectors wouldn’t get out of cars, just look and sign off.
When I collected the job late one day, the porches and drives were full of young men obviously up to no good. Few of them had balls enough to talk some trash to me as I was getting in my truck.
My company didn’t allow guns in their trucks, so I just carried one in my pocket. Still do.
