lacockcattleco - 8/15/2026 18:33 Until very recently the dairy guys didn’t care if the calf was dead or alive.

What are you calling “very recently”?

It’s been a long time since baby steins were worthless, especially the heifers.  Then they figured out sexed semen and started breeding everything that wasn’t needed for a replacement to a colored bull.   Just like that they doubled or tripled the value of their calves.  Then calves got expensive and now they’re selling $2000 bottle calves.    Or feeding them themselves selling $4000 fats.
