Is it unacceptable for a teacher to send out a note like that? Yes it is. It is especially embarrassing considering the person in question is an English teacher. With that said, it looks more to me like a case of hammering out a note when in a hurry and not proofreading it rather than a case of incompetence. The older I get the more I forget of what I learned in grade school and high school. Proper English and grammar are areas that suffer more than others for me. I get in a hurry and don't proofread. My fingers get to working faster than my brain and sometimes the results are not great. A teacher should definitely do better. One of the things I do remember being taught very early in school is to always proofread your work. This teacher did not do that.
