NW Washington | Have you installed new rollers? We had a Kenmore dryer years ago, and the roller bearings were a common problem. You could put oil on the bearings, and they still would not work. But they always made a loud noise when they were crapping out.
I can not think of anything else that could cause the drum to turn hard. I doubt that the felt bearing is the problem.
