Our local school hosted a "supply drop off" night last night. It serves as an opportunity for students to bring school supplies to the classroom prior to the first day of school, and also gives students an opportunity to interact with their new teacher. I think this is good and we participated.

Our younger son is entering the 5th grade and his teacher offered two printed handouts for parents to take home and review. I was stunned by the typographical and sentence structure errors. She is an ENGLISH teacher. I presume there was ample time to prepare, or at least proofread this handout. The typo errors could even be overlooked if the sentences were complete and not run-on structure.

It is possible that I am biased by my life experience. Every English teacher I had was outstanding and strongly encouraged students to be proficient at speaking and writing. I am at a loss as to how to address this new development outside of "hope for the best". School starts Monday.

This sets my hair on fire!
It looks like you are going to be your son’s English teacher this year.
I hope you find a way to call attention to this situation in a pleasant manner.
It is possible that others in the school see nothing wrong with the note!
Good luck to you!
