I struggle with that dry ROI also.

I wish I had a farm that I knew was going to be sold for development in 10 years, and do some sections with 100% 0% and 50% of removal P/K and just see what yield does vs soil test vs $ spent. I’m so paranoid that the low and 0% is going to hurt me long term I’m too scared to do it on a farm I’ll have for a long time and don’t want to cheat a landlord or honestly get a bad name if I loose a farm and someone else test it and says “he was just mining this farm, he’s probably mining them all”


I struggled with that for the first few years. The soil kept testing above the university's recommended P1 level so I stopped applying some years apply very little other years. Couple of them Fields. It's 12 years later and that test is still above their recommended threshold.

Crop removal rate unless you've tested your grain to see what's actually leaving your field is a pretty good scam to sell fertilizer not based on any science.
