If you think cattle numbers are short now, take a good look at the national drought map. I know a number of guys that have no idea how they are going to feed their cows this winter. Pretty sure the conversation with the banker starting with, "I need to buy $300 a ton hay for my cows with the hope it rains SOMEDAY," won't go very well.
