In 2016 we were wet early Sept, week of dry weather then 3" one night, 6" the next night, and 3" the following night. Sunny and upper 80s to low 90s everyday. What did not go under water was best ever, no drown outs. Lots of flooding which made for poor yields on the bottom land. In 2018 we were on the dry side early September, then 10 to 12" spread out over a week. Cloudy everyday for 2 weeks. No drown outs. That year was our best soybean average ever. (fields that did not flood in 2016 had a higher average in 16 than in 18) Based on pod counts 2018 should have been way better than 2016. It is my opinion that if the cloudy 2 weeks were sunny instead, then soybean yield would have been significantly higher. |
