I did not supply any parts.  The body shop was the one who put in the order for the parts on the car.  The insurance company allowed us to choose where and from whom to buy the body parts.

I talked about every thing I wanted done to the car the very first time I brought the car in.  I did not make any changes of work order or parts after I agreed to this shop doing the work.  They knew before had that I wanted the doors rebuilt.  Pass. window was out of the track and taped up to hold it up.  I opened the doors when I brought the car in for the first appraisal to show them how sloppy they were.  You could open a door and move the door up and down about 1 inch of travel.  Now repaired they move about 1/16  of an inch up and down. I showed them that the vent window crank gear boxes were stripped out and they ordered the new gear boxes.  I did bring them the 2 outside rear view mirrors.  I think that is about the only thing they did not order.

They never complained or in any way gave and indication that I should not be in or stop by the shop.  Shoot, the manager was not there 90% of the time.  The other workers welcomed the help.  I stayed out of their way and they mine.  I worked in silence and used my own tools if I needed tools. Nice group of people to work with.  They just are disorganized.

Example.  The door latch plate that he door hooks onto.  They did not know about the access door to reach the screws that held it in place. No big deal.  I showed them how the car was put together and how to remove the access door, etc.  They were very thankful for the information.  Of course I left them my GM  AIM manual, but I don't think they ever opened it.  lol.

I talked to them about my expectations.  I told them this does not have to be a NCRS repair job, but wanted back to the original condition as before  the accident.  Example. The bottom of the car is usually and preferred to be left fiberglass with no paint on it.  If you have a nice bottom the car is washed and the bottom is waxed and polished.  Well, this car was a roller and had seen a not perfect life.  The car may have been through a ditch or two before I got it. lol.  Then the common practice then is to put on an undercoating to bring uniformity to the bottom of the car.  I have before and after pic if you would like to see them.  I expected them to also bring the bottom of car back to the original condition as when I brought it in.  They never bother to do that.  That is ok.  I can strip down the bottom of the car, clean it up and apply undercoating to make it all match again.  I told them all about what I wanted when I brought in the car.  No, changes, no surprises.  It is all written up on the original work order.  Do you want a copy ?

Most times when I visited the shop I stayed about 30 min.  Mostly looking at the other cars/projects they had in the shop.  More than once I saw other car owners with cars in the shop looking over their cars.  I came to the shop every 3 weeks to see if they had any questions.

The cost they quoted to do the non accident work is about 5 times what they said it would be.  I was expecting that.  I also have no leverage to protect it.  If I don't pay they don't release the car.  No surprise to me.

Thank you for your input.  It is always good to hear another persons view.  That is the way we learn.
