I’ve always wondered how deep the ballast is below the rails.
That reminds me of one of my great grandfathers who was a fireman for a railroad in the 20s. He met his fate when a bridge that was weakened by a heavy rainstorm collapsed under the weight of the locomotive he was stoking that night.
