Subject: Lorentz solar pumps

E. Kansas
I've got a Lorentz ps2-150 solar pump in a pasture that I started renting this summer. Reading through the manual, it states that I need a DC disconnect switch between the solar panel and the controller. An old agtalk post stated that this switch should be shut off during the offseason so that the controller doesn't get too much voltage? Or is this switch purely for safety if working on the controller? Anyone have any experience with these switches and if they are necessary to prolong the life of the controller? Thanks

Edit to add:

I called a dealer and he said the switch is purely for safety reasons.
