Central S.D. | I don’t know what you have for an excavator. I would set up on the pad and dig beside the hydrant dig a level trench along the waterline that lined up with the center of the pad. I would probably cut 10’ off of each end of a 2 3/8” oilfield pipe and weld a loop of chain on the business end. Lay the bore pipe in the hole and stand back to make sure it lines up with where you want to put the riser. Pull the bore pipe toward yourself as far as you can by sticking a bucket tooth in the male end, pull it as level as you can, thread on the other piece of pipe with a female end and pull it. You could maybe wait till now to cut the hole in your concrete and then drill it with your post hole digger. Drill till you hit your bore pipe, go to the other end of your trench and pull it back with a chain like you pull a post just chaining to the tooth. No go ahead and drill a foot too deep. Go around to the other side of your hole and push your bore pipe back into the riser hole. Dangle a ratchet strap down and see if you can get lucky and catch that loop you welded on the bore pipe. Take a hundred foot roll of 1” 250 pound poly pipe cap it and tape that strap to it. If I were you I would do one of 1 1/4” 100 pound for electricity conduit. Use lots of duct tape tying them together. Test it good make sure you get it right. Take your chain and pull that bore pipe out again. Plumb a drain back curb stop where that hydrant was. Let the 1 1/4” come out beside the curb stop riser and cap if you’re not gonna use it. Typically you can buy 10 foot pieces of dual wall culvert I’d go 12”ish if your doing Ritchie style. Cut a 3” wide 2’ tall strip coming up from the bottom for the pipe to come in tape the tail up the side don’t cut it off that just sharp to rub on the pipe. Thread the riser over your pipe and tamp dirt around the pipe coming in, 250 pound is tough but insurance, make sure the pipe is covered with a dirt, then I’d fill the rest of it up with crush rock but don’t settle. if I was doing a Cobett I’d shorten it up to where it was only 6 feet in the ground if you have to you could cut that slit in the side on these to…. I’d still run a wire. I’m thinking about putting donut heaters in mine. The Jug waterers look good just don’t get any waterer you have to go down beside to plumb tho. Backfill a cobett with 1” crush rock or they will teeter

If you were bore with 2 7/8 i’d cut the hole in the concrete, a little wider, and then reuse those pipes for post beside the waterer.
