Latimer Iowa | We were Deere while I grew up and for 30 years. I grew up with Deeres. Argueably a Deere guy. About 10 years ago we switched to Case. We had many issues with the early 680 combines and motors in 9560rt tractors. Case isn’t perfect but hasn’t been worse.
For us, we deal with Mason City Red Power on Case. Good people with local ownership. Same as any dealer, it can be a struggle keeping the most experienced techs but they have a good group of young guys. Sometimes we learn together.
We started with case at Titan in Williams Iowa. It was not a pleasant experience for many reasons. Had a full line from Titan so switched to Titan Waverly. Waverly Titan was great. Red power asked for a shot on the next roll and been with them since.
On Deere, our dealer growing up was Nick Ong in Hampton. Parts, service, sales were all great. Ran a lot Deere forage equipment so were basically in there daily and they kept parts inventory for us cattle guys. That was sold to Phelps Imp and it slipped a bit, more corporate, Went from great to good. Had a transmission go out on a 680 with 200 hours in it in bean combining and they wouldn’t give us a loaner. Case had an 8230 out in 3 hours. About that time Van Wall bought out Phelps and slipped some more. Not much for parts inventory, overnight shipping was harder, local salesmen couldn’t make decisions, staff retired. I couldn’t even get a price on an air seeder/cart from them last year because they don’t sell any in the territory. There are good guys there, I don’t know them well anymore with being 80% red.
Long answer. Dealer makes or breaks it and we have liked Red Power. | |
