Got my older son his first LEGO set when he was 3, BIG pieces.
By 5 he was putting together some fairly involved sets, by 8 I think he could have put together anything available.
Got him his first Erector set about then, he still uses it to visualize some things.
I think they were a good investment. He is now an engineer with 2 patents.
He passed his love of Legos to my granddaughters, 7 year old recently finished a 1,000 piece Harry Potter castle in about 3 days with zero adult help.
