Floyd County, Iowa | Guessing as to what you're asking, saying, or whatever, but my guess is carpenter ants?
edit: I just read your post below, and say it's definitely carpenter ants. We've had a few trees with these. Was too late, but I used ant crystals on one tree, Demon liquid on another one, and Malathion on another one. The Malathion and Demon worked the best. I use the products on the surrounding soil around the trees, too. Did not kill them off, either.
