NW Missouri | I don't usually want to go any faster than 3/3 when baling. But a lot of my hay ground is steep. In the really bad spots, I actually run in 2nd range sometimes. I do wish I could go a little faster than 3/3 when hauling in bales, but yeah 4th is too fast.
No, I do not always downshift to 1st before clutching. I know some people think that is the only way to get longevity out of case powershifts, but we've had over a dozen case tractors over the years, and have only had one powershift go bad. I try not to move the powershift around when doing tillage, I put it somewhere and leave it. And if I have a bunch of weight behind me, like pulling wagons or something, I throttle down before downshifting so the powershift doesn't have to absorb all that change in momentum. But I don't think clutching it in 2nd or 3rd hurts anything, and I do change powershift gears at full throttle all the time when haying. | |
