Faunsdale, AL | I like the Deere Quad Range tractors for loader and other work where you change direction constantly. The powershift is actually slower than the 1F to 1R shift on the quad. And you have the upshift available without clutching if you need a little more speed.
You have to pick the range to match the conditions so the 1F or 2F gear is right.
You have to be meticulous about stopping before shifting though.
So, either trans option from Deere works for me. Of course reverser equipped tractors are made for this type thing but you’ll be getting into more modern more expensive tractors unless you find an older utility tractirvwith reverser that will do what you need. We ran a 2440 with reverser practically every day for 20 years but I know those tractors have a reputation for leaks in trans pipes etc. we never had that sort of trouble and there’s no telling how many clutch replacements and shifter/trans repairs we avoided by having the reverser. | |
