Subject: RE: Deere Powershift Tractors For Round Baling Hay Question

Central Illinois
We use a JD 7400 with the power quad transmission on our NH 450 roll-belt. We don't have to back up because the baler has the bale ramp. Pull the transmission into neutral, wrap, dump bale, close chamber and power shift to bale the next. 4 gears in the B range gives plenty of speed the fill the bale chamber. When baling corn stalks we occasionally use A range when 6 rows of stalks get piled up high.
I just saw your location and I'm guessing you have to back up in order to keep the bale where you drop it. The bale ramp might not be good in your mountains.
