NW IA | I know it's not a popular opinion, but I ran a 1086 as my daily driver with a loader for more than a decade and much preferred the left hand shift with the hydraulic levers to the right over my 4230 Deere quad-range with all functions on the right (I only have one right arm) Again, maybe daily use in silage, bales, snow etc. made a big difference in proficiency.
The 4630 8 speed power shift (borrowed) that I used on a ripper gave me a bump on the back of my head because of the jump between gears. Might not be an issue on a baler. A 15 speed would have to be better.
There is also a math problem alongside your question. It may cost a lot less to upgrade to a baler with a kicker than to find or trade up to a PS Deere with a lot of life left in it.
Full disclosure. I've only run a round baler on my Fergy with the Dyna4 transmission, so I am quite spoiled.
