Western Oregon | I didn't have a good home life. I left home at 12.
Both our kids were self sufficient at 12, girl 3 years older than boy. They did laundry, made 1 meal a week and had a few chores. Very minimal cash allowance, just so they had a few dollars for themselves, we paid for their daily needs. As they got older, around 16 they had part time jobs after school and summers. But we wanted them to have fun, too. I help son with his farming but more just the garden and orchard around his cabin these days. I get soil ready, he plants. I take a little of the excess from the garden and the trees. He keeps it watered. I had some health issues, low blood sugar and migraine stroke this spring. He told his mother that he was a little worried about all of it. He told her he didn't know what he would do if he lost his best friend. He has taken me to every out of town appointment. I am 70, he will be 50 in November. I haven't done a lot this summer, with all the Dr appointments but we spend a little time together every morning, on my walk catching up on his day, in his back yard, enjoying the morning. Daughter and her husband are very busy with 5 stereo sales and installation stores, 1 in Boise but she hosts a family dinner 3 out of 4 Sundays so we can have time with her Stepdaughter and her baby girl.
