The video blamed it in the Red River flowing north into late winter/early spring weather freezing up the river with an ice dam. If the ice dam holds, it back up liquid water into Fargo.
Seems weather related (not climate). Breaking an ice dam must be impossibly difficult. Wonder how much warm water it would require if the dam was 1 mile thick, south to north?
It still flows north even with ice in the river channel. The red river goes from its normal banks of 50 to 100 yards across to 6 miles wide in my home area during a spring flood. Once it jumps out its banks it takes 4-6 weeks to drain in and drop back its normal banks.
So flood starts early to mid april it’s June 1 before water is off the farmland. Slightly earlier for roads being travelled. This isn’t the whole Red River valley but certain stretches.
