Can buy all the service calls you want, but if they are too busy to show up for 2 days in planting season, then what?

This^. A cost effective, tight, properly sized farm shop is an invaluable asset to a modern farm, especially if a guy has at least a little mechanical ability and the desire to do things himself. We avoid service calls if at all possible here, but there are some guys who can’t get a bearing replaced without a service call, so it mainly depends on if you are actually going to use the new shop or not. It’s not cheap to build, but we have never regretted our new shop, it’s already been almost four years ago now, but it’s been one of the best investments we’ve ever made. Ours is wood post frame, 80’ long by 64’ wide with 20’ ceiling plus a 72’ long by 18’ wide lean with 12’ ceiling. Three overhead doors, electric boiler floor heat, finished office/kitchen/bathroom. All said and done, we have real close to 1/2 million into it.
