It depends on how you want to figure.
Last year they told me they had sprayed mine for rust. Then I found out in September they hadn't. That would have paid for a drone in one year on 500 acres or less. ( I saved $15,000 in expense but lost any where from 0 to 200 bushel per acre on yield.}
Then there is the terraces and fence rows that one could spray, instead of leaving them or running over crop.
I pay over $2,000 a year just for late season spot weed control. No terraces or fence rows.
I am not complaining about the price for those services. Those types of things take a lot of time and travel for just a few acres. On the other hand I am already here, and am supposed to be under employed this time of year.
And truthfully, I am thinking about one, just so I don't have to carry a hand sprayer across a corn field.
Also it is easier to spot spray yourself and do just the smaller areas. If you hire it done, One almost has to have them do the whole field. I don't mind paying the drone for the field and even don't mind the chemical, but if I am knocking flowers, there could be some gain in yield.
