In Iowa I believe fire suppression requirements are based on occupancy rates at the state level but municipalities can make them stricter. The bigger city 25 miles west of us is getting to the point of requiring it in most commercial buildings but our town is very lax on it.
Hence another problem with building, who's rule book do we have to play by? I hope I never have to build again!!!
