Subject: RE: 4440 charging/excite wire

I am surmising that my “brown wire” at the alternator is actually the red wire that goes to the start relay. This is what the schematic also shows. That wire is either broken or not solid connection at the relay. I’m not upset I have the bulkhead torn apart, my temp gauge has never worked and now I can diagnose that! As far as power on the #3 bulkhead, which is a tan colored wire (faded white at alternator), that has power all of the time, no matter the key on or off. I believe that wire is supposed to have power all of the time, and the wire that goes to the relay is keyed, as would be the large wire that takes current back to battery. Am I understanding that correctly?

All of my harnessing is factory/unmolested. Tractor only has 3600 hours.
