WCIL | We have the 16 ft Landoll Icon like pictured above for several years, but non-steering. It's one of those things that you buy for the purpose of doing a few things and end up using it every year on something. We have filled in shallow water holes, cleaned out ditches and dry dams and leveled rough areas. The ends are manually flipped up or down and held with a pin. Easy to do unless mud gets jammed in the cracks and puts pressure on the pin, then a screwdriver can clean it out. If you are moving dirt say 200 feet away, scraper may be better. We sometimes rent a neighbor's scraper for a day or two if we need to carry dirt a ways. Last year we bought a farm with a couple of deep washes, probably over a mile's worth. Took the blade and pulled dirt in like a dozer from both sides just skimming a few inches at a time and dropping it in the wash. Also made some berms to slow water down and divert it into a side ditch. Took a few days and looks good. I would say we use it like a box blade 80% of the time. The blade obviously isn't as heavy as a road grader so angled cuts have to be more shallow with multiple passes. With the wings down, it can pull a good pile of dirt at 16 ft wide. One advantage of the width is when leveling you have a 16 ft wide smooth area. Doesn't take long to level out a large area. They can be hard on your neck if spending countless hours and you have to constantly be adjusting, but you can do a lot with one. Like a dozer, road grader or scraper, I think one won't replace the other. Maybe you could borrow or rent your neighbor's for a day or two and see if it fits your need. You may find your big scraper is the better tool. Ours is rated for 300 hp. I think you would have to really hook something cockeyed or gouge at a steep tilt to hurt one. | |
