Nunn CO | I think you should consider owning your own farm....ASAP. Like tomorrow morning.
You have a big leg up compared to someone starting off if you have access to all your fathers land and equipment to help you build your own small side operation. That is a HUGE gift, don't undervalue it. Someone else starting off would be working in town and farming on the side just to get their foot in the door. You can farm full time for your dad (leverage all those assets, efficacy of time, etc) and start your own operation where you can teach your son what you want under your control.....
Side note/ edit: I say this because the way you word it it sounds like he has no interest in turning over his farm to you while alive. Men/ women can easily live to 95 anymore. If you have a 10 year old now your 35-40 ish? Meaning your dad is 75 ish? If he lives another 20 years (hopefully longer) you will almost be retired before taking ownership. Your kid will be 30 and unless you give it to him immediately (assuming you have generated enough retirement saving as a farm hand in the next 20 years to not need ownership) he will be in the exact position you are today and you will have lost two generation building the "family farm".
