Faunsdale, AL | Brown with white tracer is a resister wire. Known for breaking in the harness, have seen one broken near firewall connector but normally break near alternator. PULL ON IT! Insulation will stretch where break is. You can crimp splice a piece of normal stranded wire on the solid resister wire.
Or just run a plain wire to the #1/excite terminal of the alternator. As near as I can tell there is no downside to not having the resister wire. JD sells a kit to replace it. I’ve never bought one so not sure what’s in it. I think a diode and a piece of wire. If it was on a spark ignition tractor or an electric power to run fuel pump, I could maybe see the need but having it fed from the accessory bus on the back of the ignition switch will prevent backfeeding into the ignition bus when you turn off key. So I’m unable to come up with a reason not to simple splice a wire on and hook it up.
The brown with white tracer #3 matches up with a purple that runs to the accessory bus on back of ignition switch. Another purple attaches to ignition switch next to it and triggers the cab relay.
Picture is of bulkhead connector on firewall viewed from engine side. The excite wire does nothing other than the alternator.
