| Late 82’ 4440, has a 3 wire alternator on it, excite, sense and big wire taking power back to the system. The two wires that control the alternator are brown and white. Brown is 8 or 10 gauge, and the white wire is quite small. It is my understanding the white wire is the sense wire, and has 12V all the time, which I have. The brown wire is the excite wire and should have keyed power, which I suddenly no longer have. I have taken all of the cool soundguard things apart to access the bulkhead plug in the firewall. The top side of the plug is the side involving the engine harness. I have no continuity with the excite wire at the alternator to any pin. I can find the sense wire (bottom right of the top bank, looking at the plug). I am wondering which spade in the plug belongs to the excite wire, and whether that supplies power to anything else inside the engine harness? I’d like to just run a new wire to the alt. From the bulkhead. I also do not see any brown or 8-10 gauge wires in that top connector. It changes color AND size inside that harness? Don’t mind all the sticky black grease Deere shoved in the connectors 50 years ago. Any help is appreciated!!
