This is why I quit sending any money to any charity.  I simply send money to people and family's locally that appear to genuinely need some help.  Didn't for years because we didn't have any excess ourselves but now we can afford to give a little here and there to people we know are going to get it and can use it.  My wife just got the 3rd letter from an organization today that sent 2 others within the last week.  She continues to send money.  Below is what they should send for thank you's.

We’re sending you this thank you and spending your donation to ask you for more.  We’ll then spend that donation to ask you for more money.

We have friends and relatives who need the money we pay them for sending these requests, and we have associates that do the commercials asking for your money.

So, thank you again and please keep sending your donations, they do help some people.  (us & our friends)

Roughly 15 years ago i made a donation to a global charity. I don't remember the amount I sent but I'm not bill Gates so it wasn't astronomical. From that point until I ditched the land line years back, we would get phone calls very regularly from them trying to get more. To this day I still get regular solicitations by mail from them. I would think they've long burned up my donation in expenses trying to get more from me. I regret giving them a dime.
Had they sent me a letter once a year and nothing else, I'd probably still be donating to them, but they went so far over the top I was completely turned off by it
I too have turned my focus to local giving options
