Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa | in our family, equipped the same: 5.3L motor, 6 speed transmission (I assume it is the same transmission-both have 6 speeds), both have 3.42 rear end ratios, same size tires. Put them both into L5 (To lock out the AFM) drive both on flat ground at 55 mph.
The 2017 motor runs at 2,200 rpm, the 2018 runs at 1,900. Anybody got any ideas why such a difference?
FWIW: kick the 2017 into L6, motor drops down to 2,000. Friend considering getting an AFM disabler, he was asking what I thought. was doing research, learned that both L5 and L6 are overdrive gears. And by putting them into L5, it doesn't allow the AFM system to work-all 8 cylinders work all the time.
The 2017 is a High Country, the 2018 is a LTZ- but I don't think that should be making any difference.
I got the rear axle ratio on the 2018 from the window sticker, got the 2017 from the dealer checking the VIN. Being the same shot my theory all to heck.
2017 has a bed cover, 2018 doesn't-can't believe that would make 300 rpm difference. Bruce. |
