| Yeah. Wisconsin engine to run it so had the typical problems with those. Never could drive the two cylinder Deeres slow enough to not overload the combine, so great grandpa bought a B allis chalmers and even that was only marginally better. A lot of those old six foot pull types didn't get used for very long except for the John Deere 12A. When the 45 and 65 pull type john deeres came out, those popped up everywhere. Especially the 65 (pull type version of the 55). First ten years we had the 55, we custom combined about 3-400 acres every year along with the 700 acres we had. The custom acres were usually because the neighbors that were still running the little pull types had a heavy field of grain they couldn't get choked through. By the early 60s, pretty much everyone had a big enough combine on their own we quit doing custom work unless someone needed help before a big rain and we were caught up. | |
