Virginia, Northern Neck | Why do you no longer trust your Proto?
It is probably more accurate and reliable than anything you can buy today.
Why not test the Proto for accuracy?
Here is what I do -
Once in a while, I gather up torque wrenches from myself, friends, and family.
I put a couple of 1/2" bolts in a vise, with the threads sticking up.
I tighten a nut on 1 bolt at the low end of my best Snap-on wrench, and another nut on the other bolt at the high end of the wrench.
I mark each nut with a paint marker.
Then I back them off, and torque the same force with each of the other wrenches.
Usually, they are same.
If I find a wrench that is off, I tag that wrench,
Sometimes, there is an adjustment you can do.
When I visit a dealership, I always ask the parts man if he can test my wrench on their shop calibrator.
He almost always does it right away, sometimes asks me to come back in an hour.
