I was born in the mid 50's, and we had a neighbor who still shocked and threshed his crops. It sure looked like a lot of work to me. But I also remember going to threshing shows and seeing old men become 30 years younger when they helped run a threshing machine. I think the large crews was more of a social thing back then and maybe they remembered the comradery of working together?
