Wisconsin | Bad advice in the video to hold onto it for 2 years, the mistake has been made, the guy obviously doesn't need a diesel F250 if he's "bringing it back", so he should be driving a minivan. Sell it now and buy the minivan, and drive that for ten to twenty years.
The groceries comparison is completely off. We're not talking about spending money for a vehicle, that's not in dispute. We're not even directly talking about overspending on a "king ranch" or whatever for three times the money of a sensible vehicle. We're talking about underwater loans (which admittedly most loans will be unless there's a larger than usual down payment or trade in), but especially massively underwater loans from getting cars before paying the old one off, mostly.
This doesn't really have much to do with the utility vs luxury of the vehicle, or the decreasing or increasing value of the goods, it's the dealer's profit that just keeps adding up, and somebody is signing off on this, like German's postmaster, the credit worthiness is excellent if they keep paying, that's the customer they all want. They're sure not making money on me and Mainefarmer.
