These fields are long term no-till. 1401 was harvest for corn silage, a cover crop of triticale and wheat and oats. Liquid dairy manure last fall and again this spring. Cover crop was killed before manure was applied. This was done around 3 weeks before planting. At planting 3gal of Helena Nucleus. in furrow and 14 gal of 32% with 3 gallons of sulphur.
1803 was shelled then baled corn stalks last fall with wheat triticale planted and manure. Not much growth over winter killed and manure. Around 4 weeks before planting same planting as the other field.
I have heard of mycorrhizal fungi. We have started looking into biological in furrow compost at planting. What are some of the ways that all of you are doing with your biologicals?
it isn't excessive manure, in 90 to 95% of the fields we test fungal percentages are under 10% and overall low biomass numbers. we have farmed the biology right out of the soil. manure or not. Myself included
I would guess that the excess use of liquid dairy manure is what is causing the system to be out of whack with high bacteria compared to fungi
