Minnesota | Most companies have a window of time before they cancel the reservation. If you prepay the reservation, they will likely hold it for longer than if you do a "pay at pickup" reservation.
Rental companies have different policies and sometimes the individual locations operate differently (some are franchises and some are run by the parent company). Some of the companies will have a car assigned to you and all of the paperwork completed and ready to go. Some companies/locations will tell you to go out the the lot and pick a car in row X, etc.
They are much less lenient on the return time and happy to charge you extra if you don't get the car back on time. Also, play with the pickup and return times a little bit -- sometimes you can lower the rate if you pick it up slightly later or return slightly earlier. So, don't say that your pickup time is 10 am when you flight won't arrive until 12....
I've never had an issue with late arriving flights and not having a car available. | |
