Good points, but you are brushing past some of the efficiency gain of contiguous land. One other factor is specialty value. That only applies if in a niche situation. Organic crops or seed corn production are two obvious places where controlling contiguous land adds significant revenue on an annual basis. There's an actual number there though not the emotional "whatever it takes" thinking.
