Subject: Does deep ripping end rows do anything?

Coles County, Illinois

Neighbor bought a 5 shank in-line minimum disturb ripper a few years ago. He ran it behind a 8360R and just creeped (~2mph) doing his end rows. I haven't noticed him running it anymore. Did he fix the problem or decided it wasn't worth it? I have some end rows where the corn is slower growing in the middle 8 rows out of 24. Come fall harvest and I really don't notice it yielding poorly but I'm good at fooling myself. I run an Earthmaster 10" -11" deep now.
