Subject: RE: 50 cow dairy

Middle Tennessee
The guy in the video talk about the size of dairies in the sixties being 25 to 30 cows and the dairies in the seventies being 50 cows in the beginning of his video, and a dairyman wanting to expand more through the decades. I think the dairy farmer expanded his cow herd a couple dairy farmers retired due to age, so he just took up production ( this in the late seventies ). Then the eighties probably took out some dairy farms due debt and high interest rates. Plus the federal dairy buyout in 1986 let a lot dairy farmers that wanted to quit milking do that. Then the nineties smaller dairy farms that kept milking the milk processors raised the pick up charges to pickup milk at their farms. The milk processors probably had more to do with dairies getting bigger than anyone.
