The battery seems to be a big scare thing. And maybe rightly so. But I know a guy who drove a hybrid Lexus that had I think 280,000 miles before he got rid of it. I ask him about replacing the battery and he said he never had any problem with it. Of course a hybrid has a much smaller battery but of a similar style so may not be exactly the same as an EV but at any rate seems like at least some manufacturers use batteries that last pretty well.

The other thing I know is a young man in Washington that took it upon himself to learn how to service and repair the high voltage batteries in EV's. He finds the bad cells and replaces them with cells out of a junk similar EV battery. He also buys older cheap EV cars with degraded batteries, fixes and reconditions the battery so it will have a serviceable range, and then sells the car for a small profit. He is just a one man show and does what he can as a side gig to his other mechanic income. Not a nation wide thing or big business. The only reason I bring it up is that people are inquisitive and creative thinkers. As time goes by and EV become more popular I think many reasonably low cost solutions may be found.

Seems like the car we bought has an eight or ten year battery warranty, I forget. Could look it up but am too lazy. Probably pro rated or something stupid. But it really wasn't a concern of mine, so didn't pay that much attention. Heck at my age I myself may not even last eight or ten years.

My personal belief is that EV's are definitely in our future. There are a lot of applications where they make sense, both functionally and economically. The car we bought didn't seem much if any higher cost than a similarly equipped ICE car (Was actually about 5,000 cheaper than the Toyota hybrid we had been looking at). There were cheaper ICE cars available for sure, but not with the features and comfort as the EV we bought. Are they going to take over the car or truck market? Not in my lifetime, in my opinion. I don't see them ever getting the energy density needed to cover all applications. But I think the EV's will make steady progress and inroads into the commuting and short haul market. Just my opinion.

At the Subaru dealership we bought the car, three of the employees drove Subaru EV's. Small dealership in Joplion, Mo. I would guess maybe a dozen employees total.
