The first winter out of high school worked for a construction guy running a Cat D7 3T, a later model with oil clutch. Winter only while I wasn't farming. Pushing out trees and leveling strip pit dumps reclaiming old mine ground. Canvas side covers to bring the engine heat back over you in below freezing temperatures. 18 years old. I guess it was my only "job" where I worked for someone else and got paid an hourly wage. Self employed rest of my life. Later in my farming career owned a very similar but later model D7 17A naturally aspirated (100 hp 4 cylinder, later 17A's were turbo and higher hp). Did a lot of work around the farm with it.

Those old cable dozers were tough as nails and operating those steering levers and hand clutch let you know you did some work at the end of the day.
