Bought my 14 yr old son a dji mini 3 for Christmas. I think one of those or a 4 would do what you want. I don’t think 3 miles would be a good idea. Are short tenure as drone owners and flyers, I think you want to be able to have visual contact with it while you’re flying. That’s just my opinion.
Also just got a mini 3 rc. Includes the lcd with the controls for fast bug free connections. Battery life is fairly short as they have too stay under 250 grams.
3 miles is not a problem if you get up 700 ft for signal strength, has 4x zoom but still hard to see detail at over 100 ft.
