Whole point of starter is to "Start" the plant off by being banded next to the plant. Lots of starter here is going to more 28 or 32 being placed 2x2 as it usually performs better than a in furrow based NPK mix.
Tons of people spray N sources with first pass of herbicide. ATS with soybeans or ATS 28/32 in corn.
