We have had corn that was short because of dry weather (like 6' instead of 8 or 9') yield above average.  That was the same year that there was around an 80 bushel difference between worked ground and ground that was no-till or strip tilled in mulch from either previous year cover crop or wheat straw. (mulched ground was better)Really needs to start growing good at tasseling time for this to happen.
