Franklinton, LA | There are some beautiful barrier islands 10 to 15 miles off the MS Gulf Coast. The south side of the islands have nice wide sandy beaches, clear water and some waves. People on the MS Gulf coast often go the islands to fish, relax, swim and have a little fun. These islands are part of the National Marine Seashore. They are owned, patrolled and managed by the National Park Service. The islands do not have electricity, running water, restrooms or other improvements.
On the morning of July fourth four 18 and 19 year old long time friends from Ocean Springs, MS went to Horn Island in a small privately owned boat. That afternoon 3 of the friends wanted to return to Ocean Springs. According to the 3 white friends, their black friend wanted to stay on the island and return with other friends later that afternoon. The 3 white friends returned to Ocean Springs without their black friend. For some reason the black friend did not return. His body was found on Monday, July 6.
The victims family quickly got Dr. Al Sharpton and a civil rights attorney involved. A day or two later the 3 white boys dropped their social media accounts because of threats. Later that week they left the state due to threats. The parents of the boys have also received threats and the FBI is investigating. The civil rights attorney started a go fund me account for Nolan Wells funeral and they quickly raised over $800.000. Dr. Al Sharpton spoke at the funeral in Ocean Springs. The long-time friends did not attend the funeral due to safety concerns.
During the past 3 weeks a nice town with good race relations has been wrecked. You can do a web search for "Nolan Wells" and see dozens of articles.
My 19 year old Grandaughter said she has known all of the boys forever. They were in her class at Ocean Springs high school. She said there is absolutely no way any of these boys would harm each other.
