Mid MO | Dh is hvac, so maybe a little different.
Dh graduated tech school, worked non union shop and then one fortune 500 gas company. He was recruited by an acquaintance while at work one day. This guy had seen him bustin' it at work for years and noticed. Dh had been maxed out on their pay scale and getting more and more crap dumped on him. No change in sight and all of the big wigs in corporate had begun to retire early all of a sudden. So, he made the switch. They brought him in as a journey man. 42% pay raise!!!!!! He's home every night, works 45 min from home and does on call 3-4 times a year. Health care for our family is amazing, good retirement, and he's well paid. He's been with them 4 years. He's 6 miles from home today. The non union shop had him all over the state. We've got a family, so closer is better these days.
